I also had the Genetics ascension, the Apparatus (yes, it's still there as a choice) is still there as one option (most likely the only one if not in any ascension yet), did get to pick ascension path choice, with genetics it was having clone bodies, so Luminary can that way live forever. Cost is -100 food permanently every month.

Under One Rule is very bad at informing the player about what their decisions will result in and at letting the player know what their options are. Also, the hard coded death of the Luminary is actually bonkers when you have Venerable, Perfected Genes, the Luminary Trait, and tech and tradition leader lifespan all stacked on top of each other.
